"BUILDING BRIDGES FROM PROBLEMS TO SOLUTIONS"

My practice consists primarily of civil litigation and family law. The common approach is that I thoroughly evaluate the facts and the law and then approach the other side and try to reach a pragmatic solution based on common interests. As Isaac Newton said, “Men build too many walls and not enough bridges.”

I enjoy problem solving. I work to make complex problems simple. This is different than giving simple answers to complex problems. My touchstone is “Occam's razor” which has been summarized as:

"All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the best one." In other words, when multiple competing theories are equal in other respects, the principle recommends selecting the theory that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest hypothetical entities.

However, if early negotiation isn’t successful, then I’ll engage in litigation. As Teddy Roosevelt wrote in referencing the West African proverb, “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” After over 25 years as a lawyer, I have deep and profound respect for the rule of law in our society. That energy carries through to the cases that are a part of my daily practice as well as some interesting cases that reached the Court of Appeal and the California Supreme Court.
